Next up in our inspirations series is Red D. He's been a major influence on our dj'ing for years now. He made us rediscover our House roots again, schooled us in flow and sequencing and teached us about the rawer end of the genre. And he gave us the opportunity to meet and play next to legends like Roy Davis Jr., Mike Dunn, Kirk Di Giorgio and more.
Since about a year he is running his own label called We Play House Recordings which has seen some killer releases from San Soda, RBMA participant last year and co-running the label. This will be celebrated in style this Saturday with Larry Heard aka Mr Fingers at Decadance. Be there if you love House music. Essential one. And buy the releases. The upcoming one by Maxim Lany and Ramon Tapia is a big one.
The mix he recorded for us starts gently with some Italo Disco inspired cuts and ends in pure Rave mayhem. Nice to see the Homerun track in the play list. Enjoy.
The cover is as always available to download here.
Track List:
Oblio – Principles Of Discovery
Snowy Red – Euroshima (Wardance)
Homerun – The Killer Storm
Friendly Fires – Paris (Aeroplane Remix)
San Soda – Thanx Mike (unreleased)

Crash Course In Science – Flying Turns
DMX Krew – Texture Mapping
Aroy Dee – Summer EP
Sleazy D – I’ve Lost Control (GU Remix)

Third instalment in our Podcast series is up on our page. This time it is our good friend DJé Vinyl who has compiled and mixed one. Djé aka Dizze aka Didier was our main record dealer in the beginning days of Onda Sonora. He kept the Doctor Vinyl store in our hometown Halle in those days and I spent entire Saturdays there checking vinyl, drinking beer and talking nonsense. Half my collection comes from his shop. When it closed I felt lost for several months. Still haven't found anything that comes near. The combination of friends gathering, good music galore and a host who knew his trade like no other combined with the antics of a suburban town where nothing ever happens was enough to get me melancholic about it. That shop is why I'll always prefer getting dusty fingers in record shops above pain in them from searching the net.
After the shop closed Didier slowly found a new quest in life. Still digging vinyl like there is no tomorrow, knowing all there is to know about the music he loves. Still a good friend. Almost married, so after almost a decade of telling everyone Onda Sonora Soundsystem would be the dj's at his wedding, we will be able to play one of our most honourable but most difficult sets. Playing for a half African / half hardcore crate diggin' public.
The mix itself is a jazzy one. With some Moodymann thrown in (I learned to appreciate the Detroit House sound from him) and that killer Webster Lewis tune (never realised that it is the same guy as "Welcome Aboard" until today). Deep one.
You will find the cover for this one is here.

Gil Scott-Heron: We Almost Lost Detroit ( Strata east )
Moodymann : J.A.N. ( Kdj )
Melvyn Price : Voodoo Love Dance ( Wax Poetics )

Webster Lewis : Do You Believe ( Plastic Strip Norway )

DJ Xogn only stepped into our world recently but he managed to make a big impression nevertheless. He is a collector, record merchant and DJ who spent a part of his live in Dakar, Senegal. There he was DJ at the Koulgraoul parties. That alone should be reason enough to ask him to do a mix. But there’s more. The few times we saw him at work, he dropped so much unknown gems that I didn’t even bother to ask him about it. I would have been stalking him constantly and, as a DJ myself, I know that’s irritating. Asking him to contribute to this series of Podcasts seemed like a better idea. He made an African funk mix that consists, apart from that Matata track, of tunes I haven’t heard before. A collection of raw, funky grooves that work infectious on the hips.
Can't give you much links of ways to contact him but we can always forward any questions. Just send us a mail if you need more info.
If want to check the man at work, that's possible. He play,s alongside DJ ReeDoo, at Cafe Bota Stereo on Friday the 6th of February. The day before our night.
Like last time I've made a cover for when you burn it on CD.
Track List:
Kalle & L'African Team : African Boogaloo
El Rego & Ses Commandos: Feeling you got

The news that the legendary USA Import record shop in Antwerp is closing made me a bit sad last week. Not that I visited it a lot but I hate to lose those few places that still sell vinyl. That's why I decided to, even more than I did before, share my sources. The places where I find my dance floor gold. This blog sometimes seems like a promo tool for Rush Hour already and Disco Dalglish has hinted more than once you need to visit the Record Collector in Antwerp plus we have a permanent post about all good shops we frequent but I'll take this all up a notch.
There's a shop I want to give some extra shine. Wally's Groove World in Antwerp. My main source for classic House vinyl. With an internet site so everyone who reads this is able to buy records there. Koenie has shitloads of bloody good House records in his cellar. Most are so dirt cheap it's ridiculous. Really. I've found some of the 12”s I cherish most for under 5 euro in this shop. To prove my point I've recorded a mix with records I picked up at Wally's, all for 15 euro and often much less.
It's a Garage / New Jersey House kinda mix. This because I wanted some coherence. But don't think it's specialised in this genre. It has all kinds of House. From more techy sounds over soulful to that raw Detroit or Chicago shit. Go visit it and buy plenty of vinyl. But leave some for me. And feel free to share your sources. It's a way to keep them alive.
And I've tried to make this Podcast as informing as possible. With all info included in the file itself. Like Disco Dalglish always does. Check it out in your iTunes player.

Who or what is ‘Show Business Maghis’? I found a whole lot of records whit ‘Show Business Maghis’ stamps on it during my last two diggin’ sessions in Antwerp. Seems like a 70’s / 80’s Belgian (mobile) disco dj with good taste sold (a part of) his collection. Got the dude’s name and previous adress but can’t get any closer to that for the moment. I ‘d like to meet this guy if possible and do a little interview about the party scene, record stores, his inspiration,...way back. If any of you could get me in touch, let me know: bellemansyoeri@hotmail.com.
About the playlist. It ranges from midtempo disco to uptempo boogie, from Tee Scott to François Kevorkian productions, from New York over London to Italy, from very common records to rare. Anyway, enjoy these records of the ‘Show Business Maghis’ collection!
